An Atlanta Holiday Gift Guide
Six perfect things to buy for your stylish food and drink-loving friends (or for yourself)
I’m thankful for each and every one of you, thanks for supporting and thanks for reading. I hope your hearts and bellies are oh-so-full today and every day. Will be spending my Thanksgiving working and baking and trying to get my steps in. If you have suggestions for a great new show (light, funny, easy), send them my way. I just finished the most recent season of Never Have I Ever, which was a treat, because somehow I completely missed it when it came OVER A YEAR AGO.
And now for the good stuff… Atlanta is bursting with creativity, from artisanal foods and street art to fun one-of-a-kind gifts you probably won’t find anywhere else. Instead of (or in addition to) shopping on Amazon this Black Friday, opt for some local treasures so perfect for gifting you’ll probably want to keep them yourself. Not in ATL? No worries. You can order all of these things online and still support local.
For the Foodie
Lemon-infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Pure Chilean
A premium olive oil that supports sustainable farming and tastes divine. The lemon is my favorite, but I also love the blood orange and black garlic/rosemary. I think I’ll try the basil or white truffle next.
Where to buy: Online or at a local Atlanta-area farmers market (take 20% off with code SHOPSMALL24 on Small Business Saturday)
Salt or Sugar from Beautiful Briny Sea
Locally made gourmet salts like “Mr. Gigglepants” (organic cane sugar, hibiscus, orange, lemon) and “Ladybug Picnic” (garlic, lemon, pepper, and hints of mustard, paprika, and herbal notes from parsley and dill) bring a flavorful touch to any dish.
Where to buy: Beautiful Briny Sea
For the Bookworm
When Southern Women Cook
With history, lore, and 300 recipes (from 70 women writers), this cookbook is perfect for anyone who loves exploring regional flavors and history.
Where to buy: Charis Books in Decatur, the oldest independent feminist bookstore in the South.
For the Wine and Spirits Enthusiast
A Bottle of Local Wine
Vine Fine Wine offers selections from all over, but also a couple local vineyards like Cloudland and Limoges. Cloudland is known for their pet-nats and skin contact wines while Limoges has lots of great options including Emilia, a sparkling red that’s drier (and even more delicious, IMO) than a Lambrusco.
Where to buy: Vine Fine Wine in Decatur, or you can take a day trip to one of the wineries to taste and experience it firsthand (I went on a little day trip to Yonah Mountain and the family-owned Limoges in North Georgia a couple weeks ago and had the best time).Amaro Peach for Cocktails or Sipping
In Chamblee, Distillery of Modern Art makes really fun spirits like a peach vodka and an award-winning gin. I loved the peach amaro on its own and also in a cocktail called Several Circles. You can try it at DoMA’s bar/tasting room or make it at home with just three ingredients: transatlantic bitters, coffee, and amaro peach.
Where to buy: Distillery of Modern Art in Chamblee
For the Homebody Who Also Loves Travel, Food & Little Tchotchkes
Small Batch Hand-Poured Candles from The Original Tinned Fish Candle
These cute little tinned fish-inspired candles transport you to coastal escapes. Perfect for adding a playful, gourmet touch to your kitchen or coffee table.
Where to buy: Press Shop in Summerhill
Any other cities you want gift guides for? I’ll be in Miami and LA in December so I might whip up a couple last minute lists that include some of the best (aka my favorite) food/bev gifts from coast to coast. Ciao for now.
